Go to your local auto parts store and purchase a bottle of Lexol leather conditioner (16 oz. ~ $10). I’ve used this for years on everything from car seat leather, baseball gloves, leather belts, leather jackets, shoes and yes leather holsters. It really works magic on leather, making the leather feel broken-in and gun holsters.
O NOT use anything on your holster unless it’s recommended by the maker otherwise you’ll wind up with a useless piece of leather. Wrap the unloaded gun in a plastic baggie or wax paper (wax side out) and leave it overnight, if still tight leave it in for another 4-6 hours. You can also just sit in front of the TV and just draw your weapon in/out till it loosens up. Just make absolutely sur that the gun is unloaded and keep the ammo/mag in another room if other folks/kids are around.

Despite a weak economy, gun sales are continuing to increase amid concerns that incoming lawmakers will institute a new gun ban on law-abiding Americans. Data derived from the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) show a 24 percent increase in firearm purchaser background checks for the month of December 2008 (1,523,426 checks) over December 2007 (1,230,525 checks). This increase follows a 42 percent rise in NICS checks for the preceding month, the highest number of checks in NICS history.

Selecting a single weapon for your survival means that it is going to be called upon to perform a number of different tasks. These can range from hunting to self-defense including CQB and long-range battles. In addition, shooting may require penetration of body armor, cover, or other obstacles and at the same time the selected firearm/Pistol Grips may be called upon to be safe when AR15 rounds go astray indoors.
The selected weapon and ammunition will need to be light as travel may be required, and you’ll want to keep them with you at all times. The rifle needs to be reliable, durable, easy to maintain, and parts should be readily available.
Since distances can vary from a few feet to a few AR-15 Magazines, selecting a single weapon/cartridge that will handle short to intermediate ranges seems like the best tradeoff. While it is often advantageous to keep as much distance between you and your target, this applies for the most part to offensive tactics; in a survival situation, most encounters will be defensive and thus at shorter ranges. These “defensive” ranges can range from a few feet to 300 yards.

Some flashlights have an electrical generator built into it. Dynamo-powered flashlights have a winding crank connected to a stepper motor that feeds several diode bridges with their outputs connected in parallel feeding a field effect transistor that charges a capacitor that connects to one or more Glow Sticks. Others generate electricity using electromagnetic induction. They use a strong permanent magnet that can freely slide up and down a tube, passing through a coil of wire as it does. Shaking the flashlight will charge a capacitor or a rechargeable battery that supplies a current to a light source, typically a light-emitting diode or, more rarely, an incandescent light bulb. However, these types of flashlights have been reported to be ineffective because of the low energy.[citation needed]

In politics, it is all about perception. And this is politics.
When speaking as an individual, you are free to speak as you wish. But, when you start an interview flaunting your status as a member of the NRA Board of Directors, you have a responsibility to choose your words carefully and represent your constituents.
There are 79 members on the Board of Directors. That means that each one has very little power, if any. It also means that the NRA has a difficult job controlling what they say. But, they have a responsibility to not stab the organization in the back.
The board is elected by the membership. BoD members can not be fired. But, the membership should be able to hold a recall vote.
Joaquin Jackson is a former Texas Ranger and has published a biography. His resume and style all give him substantial credibility in the media.
Jackson advocated magazine limits for assault weapons. He did not define ‘assault weapons’. His advocacy of magazine limits for assault weapons is in direct opposition to the NRA’s stated position and the belief of gun owners across the country. It also plays right into the hands of gun control groups.
The bottom line is that Joaquin Jackson either meant what was on tape, did not communicate clearly or was a victim of editing.
If Jackson meant what was on tape, he does not support the NRA’s position and should not be reelected to the NRA Board of Directors.
If Jackson communicated poorly, he has no business putting himself front and center as a spokesman for the NRA.
If Jackson is just a victim of editing, his rebuttal is two years late in coming. He and the NRA should have addressed this issue as soon as it appeared.
Do I buy Jackson’s explanation? It does not matter. Joaquin’s actions have weakened the power of the NRA. His membership on the BoD should come to an end.
Should the gun owning public shun the NRA for the ill advised words of one member of the BoD? Absolutely not. The NRA is the most effective gun rights advocacy group in Washington.
Finally, any gun rights organization that attacks the entire NRA for the actions of one member of the board should be looked at very skeptically. This fight should not be within the movement. It should be with those that would infringe on our rights.
I don’t recall if I have ever done a QotD before and I may never again. But this was just too much. In Philly they want to file a suit against the NRA for successfully lobbying against Pennsylvania gun control laws.
From Michael Coard, president of the Philadelphia Millions More Movement:
“I am constantly in court defending young Black men who are accused of shooting another young Black man.”
Followed by:
“We are looking for survivors of victims of gun violence who will sign on to our lawsuit. The object of our lawsuit is to allow Philadelphia to finally be able to pass its own gun legislation.”
Perhaps if Michael would stop defending shooters and let them rot in jail there would be fewer victims in Philly.
From the Firearms Coalition Well, the anti’s have finally published their list of events for their part of National Exercise Your Rights Day. They are planning to exercise their First Amendment Rights in the following ways:
a rally at a park in Newark near the school where the recent shootings took place
a protest at a gun store in Maryland that is responsible for the most crime guns found in Washington, D.C.
a candlelight vigil at the Arizona state capitol in Phoenix
a community gathering at a church in Birmingham, Alabama
an anti-violence coalition breakfast in Minneapolis
a statewide letter writing campaign is being organized in California to build support for a crime-fighting “microstamping” bill being considered by the State Legislature.
I encourage gun rights activists nationwide to exercise your First and Second Amendment Rights by helping to make next Tuesday a record sales day for your local firearms and ammunition dealers and a record letter and e-mail day for your elected officials.
If you live in an area where an anti-gun activity is scheduled, please show up at their events with proper attire, buttons, and signage to let these folks know that you support ALL of their rights.
We’ve gotten a lot of responses from activists around the country planning to take individual action, but not a lot of information about group actions. The Second Amendment Sisters and Maryland activists are planning to “support” the event at Realco Guns in Upper Marlboro, Maryland from Noon to 2:00 and while it is difficult to ask activists in Northern Virginia to disarm and venture into “The People’s Republic of Maryland”, I am planning to do so and your support would be appreciated. Since this is going to be the official event for the DC area, it is also likely to be the biggest and receive the most publicity so we need the best turnout possible.
If you or your group is planning any organized activity - march, shooting event, picnic, group buying trips, or whatever, please let us know so we can help get more people to join you.
If you are willing to coordinate an event, please let us know.
Missouri residents are reminded that your new law goes into effect on the 28th which should lower costs for you.
Please forward this alert to everyone on your e-mail list and copy it into your favorite firearms forums.
Joaquin Jackson has officially volunteered to be an exboard member of the NRA. His desire should be granted post-haste.
Update from the Firearms Coalition:
Yesterday I sent out an Alert about NRA Director Joaquin Jackson’s TV interview in which he opined that “assault weapons” were alright if they only had a capacity of 5 rounds.
This story has actually been bouncing around the internet for a couple of weeks and Ranger Jackson and NRA have released a response to the concerns raised by the story.
It is very clear in the interview exactly what Jackson is saying and what he means. Along with some other comments he states:
“I think these assault weapons basically need to be in the hands of the military and they need to be in the hands of the police, but as far as assault weapons to a civilian, if you… if you… it’s alright if you got that magazine capacity down to five rounds.”
The interview took place on June 5, 2005 - not long after the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban had been allowed to sunset - so the debate on that issue should have been fairly fresh in Jackson’s mind.
The pertinent segment is the last one on the page.
For the record, H. Joaquin Jackson is indeed a sitting member of the NRA Board of Directors.
A complete listing of NRA Officers and Directors, along with their mailing addresses, was published in the current (September) issue of the NRA magazines.
A response has been posted on the NRA web site, http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/InTheNews.aspx?ID=9899 that is supposed to have been written by Jackson, but which does not really sound or feel like Jackson. In that response letter, Jackson - or his ghost writer - claims that the mistake is the viewer’s, not his. That his only mistake was in not making himself clear that he was talking about hunting and full-auto assault weapons.
If that is true, then Ranger Jackson was advocating that the police have full-auto weapons and that it is “alright” for civilians to have then as long as the magazine capacity is restricted to only 5 rounds.
Here is the Statement:
Recently, concerns have been raised in response to statements made by NRA Board Member Joaquin Jackson to Texas Monthly in 2005. We have received questions from NRA members who are seeking clarity as to NRA’s positions on the subject matter discussed in Mr. Jackson’s interview. To be clear, NRA supports the right of all law-abiding citizens to Keep and Bear Arms for all lawful purposes. We will continue, as we have in the past, to vigorously oppose any efforts to limit gun ownership by law-abiding citizens as an unconstitutional infringement on our Second Amendment freedoms. These efforts include opposition to any attempts to ban firearms, including firearms incorrectly referred to as “assault weapons”, and any attempts to place arbitrary limits on magazine capacity.
For more information on NRA’s legislative efforts to protect and defend the Second Amendment, please visit www.NRAILA.org and www.Clintongunban.com.
STATEMENT OF JOAQUIN JACKSON
Recently, some misunderstandings have arisen about a news interview in which I participated a few years ago. After recently watching a tape of that interview, I understand the sincere concerns of many people, including dear friends of mine. And I am pleased and eager to clear up any confusion about my long held belief in the sanctity of the Second Amendment. In the interview, when asked about my views of “assault weapons,” I was talking about true assault weapons – fully automatic firearms. I was not speaking, in any way, about semiautomatic rifles. While the media may not understand this critical distinction, I take it very seriously. But, as a result, I understand how some people may mistakenly take my comments to mean that I support a ban on civilian ownership of semiautomatic firearms. Nothing could be further from the truth. And, unfortunately, the interview was cut short before I could fully explain my thoughts and beliefs. In fact, I am a proud owner of such rifles, as are millions of law-abiding Americans. And many Americans also enjoy owning fully automatic firearms, after being cleared by a background check and meeting the rigorous regulations to own such firearms. And these millions of lawful gun owners have every right – and a Second Amendment right – to own them.As a hunter, I take great pride in my marksmanship. Every hunter should practice to be skilled to take prey with a single shot, if possible. That represents ethical, humane, skilled hunting. In the interview several years ago, I spoke about this aspect of hunting and my belief that no hunter should take the field and rely upon high capacity magazines to take their prey. But that comment should never be mistaken as support for the outright banning of any ammunition magazines. In fact, such bans have been pursued over the years by state legislatures and the United States Congress and these magazine bans have always proven to be abject failures.Let me be very clear. As a retired Texas Ranger, during 36 years of law enforcement service, I was sworn to uphold the United States Constitution. As a longtime hunter and shooter, an NRA Board Member, and as an American – I believe the Second Amendment is a sacred right of all law-abiding Americans and, as I stated in the interview in question, I believe it is the Second Amendment that ensures all of our other rights handed down by our Founding Fathers.I have actively opposed gun bans and ammunition and magazine bans in the past, and I will continue to actively oppose such anti-gun schemes in the future.I appreciate my friends who have brought this misunderstanding to light, for it has provided me an opportunity to alleviate any doubts about my strong support for the NRA and our Second Amendment freedom.
####
Doesn’t that sound more like it was written by a Washington PR suit than a Texas Ranger?
Regardless of who actually wrote the letter, Jackson’s name is on it.
As I said in the Alert yesterday, I like and respect Joaquine Jackson. I am very disappointed that he would take such a misguided and bigoted position on “assault weapons” and even more disappointed that he would choose to try to blame the viewer rather than owning up to his own remarks. If he thought civilians shouldn’t have “assault weapons” and has now seen the light and changed his position, I could accept and respect that. Trying to claim that what he very clearly said - and reiterated - is not what he actually meant, I find completely disingenuous.
I hate having to get into the middle of this at a time when The Firearms Coalition is actively working to bring the gun rights community together, but when you are guided by certain principles, you can not ignore those principles in favor of diplomacy.
Should Joaquin Jackson be vilified and made a pariah in the gun rights community? No, absolutely not. But he should not be a member of the NRA Board of Directors.
It is the right to live free and protect yourself.
Backing up, I remember thinking the Ruger Ranch Rifle was an interesting idea. Just not applicable to my circumstances. Prairie dogs have been my issue because I back up to county open space. The Ruger 10-22 has done just fine.
Then our circumstances changed. We bought some mountain land. Inhabitants include deer, elk, bear and moose.
The concept of a ranch rifle became real. Protecting your family from large animals is now a definite consideration.
With deep woods, I wanted a semiautomatic with a shorter barrel and a big punch. What I wanted was a Ruger Ranch Rifle on steroids. The .223 just wasn’t going to do it. The 6.8mm Rem SPC is ballistically an unknown to me and ammo availability could be an issue.
What I ended up with is a Springfield Armory Socom 16. It is not small, but is smaller. Certainly not pretty, but very functional.
The bottom line is that the best choice for the job is a firearm the gun grabbers want to say NOBODY needs.
A basis of need is not in the Constitution. But if it were, the gun grabbers would still be wrong on what they want to call assault weapons.
Hillary’s makeover into a person who can understand those less successful than herself has begun. There is even mention of Hillary as a gun shooter, but not owner, mind you.
This one I took in on a trade 5 years ago and fired it once. It is in great shape and fired very well and was more acccurate than p89 ruger bearcat . I did adjust the sights ( which are adjustable) and was very pleased with the groups it shot. It has very slight wear near the end of the barrel but small Ruger super blackhawk, Cylinder looks great.
Enhanced intensity NIGHT VISION is simply the ability to see with very small quantities of light. Although the human visual system can, in theory, detect single photons under ideal conditions, the neurological noise filters limit sensitivity to a few tens of photons, even in ideal conditions [1]. Some animals have evolved better night vision through the use of a larger optical aperture, improved retina composition that can detect weaker light over a larger spectral range, more photoefficient optics in the eye, and improved neurological filtering which is more tolerant of noise. Enhanced intensity range is achieved via technological means through the use of an image intensifier, gain multiplication CCD, or other very low-noise and high-sensitivity array of photodetectors.
